Gazette: Montgomery County schools get B-minus in transparency

Sunshine Review, an organization dedicated to improving transparency in government, has issued a B-minus grade to MCPS, according to an article in today's Gazette.

From the article:
The Montgomery County school system received a B-minus grade in transparency from a nonprofit group for a lack of information on contracts and audits.

The Sunshine Review, which released a report in mid-July on the transparency of school systems in all 50 states, penalized Montgomery County Public Schools because it failed to post its contracts and audits on its website, even though information related to contracts and audits is available online.

MCPS also was downgraded because it failed to post information on background check procedures for its employees, which Sunshine senior editor Diana Lopez said is a crucial part of assessing a school system's transparency.
