Audubon Naturalist Society Protests School Plan

Below is a letter to MCPS from the Audubon Naturalist Society protesting the planned construction at the McKenney Hills Elementary School site.

It looks like MCPS is attempting to put one of Superintendent Weast's super-sized elementary schools on a small school site. The Audubon Naturalist Society is protesting the forest conservation plan.

Gone are the days when school sizes were set by the Board of Education. Now Superintendent Weast is free to put a 750 - 1,000 student elementary school on a site that previously would have educated half as many students.

  1. As a member of ANS, I ask that you please correct your information. ANS has not opposed the construction of McKenney Hills Elementary School. Instead, an agreement has been negotiated to build the school in a way that minimizes the impact on the environment. Thanks.
