Legislators Lectured by Jerry Weast

Over a Costco dinner buffet of shrimp platters, sandwich wraps, vegetables and dip, and a selection of desserts (including Godiva Chocolates), select MCPS employees, PTA leaders, and Board of Education members discussed the upcoming legislative session in Annapolis with newly elected state House and Senate representatives.

It was supposed to be a "Dialogue on Key Legislative Platform Issues" between Montgomery County's delegation to the General Assembly and the Board of Education.

Instead, it was the good old-fashioned "sage on the stage" lecture by Pat O'Neill and Christopher Barclay, complete with a slide show designed to convince the legislators that MCPS can't possibly cut costs in any area whatsoever.

Superintendent Jerry Weast chimed in repeatedly, urging the legislators to "stick together," and exhorting them to bring home the "school construction money" bacon, which, he claimed, Montgomery County is "owed."

Of course, nowhere in the power point presentation having to do with the needs of Montgomery County students was any mention of ..... SPECIAL EDUCATION!
