Another MCPS executive favorite: Gordon Biersch

"Fresh, hand crafted beer and premium, made-from-scratch food... all served up in a friendly and fun atmosphere - that's what the Gordon Biersch experience is all about."
That's the Gordon Biersch story, according to their website.

American Express credit card records reveal that Chief of Staff Brian Edwards, Superintendent Jerry Weast, and Public Relations Director Dana Tofig were treated by taxpayers to the Gordon Biersch experience on November 20, 2009.

The trio were joined by Gazette Editorial Editor David Simon, who assured us that he paid for his own meal, as is customary in the media business.

  1. All news editors and reporters get to have lunch with Jerry Weast?

  2. Really ... you're nitpicking over $80 for 4 people? There are bigger stories to be told

  3. Hey, it's your tax dollars. If you are happy with MCPS using your money to go out to eat then, please write a check today and send them more money.

MCPS spent $5.2 MILLION on American Express credit cards in FY 10.

We are showing you what that $5.2 MILLION paid for. If you don't want to know, don't read what we will be making public.

  4. It was $80 for three people. The Gazette editor paid for his own meal.

But you're right -- there are bigger stories to be told. And they're coming soon.

  5. You do know that MCPS carpenters, electricians, and many other supervisors and shops within MCPS have cards too, right? I think there may be a bigger story there.

  6. I notice Brian Edwards features in every one of these credit card logs. I guess sending his children to private school means he has to economize somewhere, right? so how better to do so than charge the Montgomery County taxpayers for his lunches. way to go Brian!
