The Secret Superintendent Selection Process Continues

For people that think Montgomery County elected officials believe in operating in an open and transparent way, think again. In other communities across the United States the public actually gets to meet the finalists for Superintendent positions. But in "world-class" Montgomery County? It's all behind closed doors.

Subject: [MCCPTA_Delegates] Superintendent Selection Process - Your Input

Delegates,

As mentioned at our February Delegates Assembly, MCCPTA will have a limited role in the Superintendent selection process. At the invitation of the Board of Education, I will participate in a "confidential dialogue with the finalists for the position of Superintendent."
Due to BOE concerns that a lack of confidentiality could discourage potential candidates currently holding high level positions in other school districts, I will be signing a confidentiality agreement. I will do my best to keep you informed; just understand that I will be limited by certain constraints.

Also, the role itself is limited. While those who participate in the "dialogue" will provide feedback to the search consultants and the BOE for their consideration, the ultimate hiring decision rests with the BOE members.

So....this is your last chance to provide input!

Take a look at the Leadership Profile Report that resulted from input collected via the focus groups, public forums, and online survey. This report identifies the primary characteristics to be sought in a new superintendent:

If you have anything to add, please email me at president@mccpta.com no later than Friday, April 1, and I will do my best to represent all of our interests!

Thank you!

Kristin Trible
President
MCCPTA

  1. 1. Is it true that a contingent from the BOE will be FLYING TO DENVER COLORADO to interview the finalists?

    2. Is Ms. Tribble going on this alleged trip to DENVER to interview the finalists?

  2. Despite saying this in an August 2010 interview: "Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations President Kristin Trible said the group would put together a committee next month to survey the more than 50,000 parents it represents. "We'll probably do a little behind the scenes, and some testimony before the board," she said.

and repeatedly saying at just about every Delegates Assembly that she was working hard for a "seat at the table," prior to the email message sent above, NO attempt was made to solicit input from the "more than 50,000 parents" she represents. No committee was formed.

  3. As someone on a public school listserv, I have never seen one word about a new superintendent discussed on that listserv. The same PTA folks that claim to represent every parent or guardian in this county clamped down on most of these listservs. No discussion allowed. Only 'announcements.' There has been no notification, no outreach, and no discussion of any kind on the listserv to which I subscribe. I doubt if most of the parents at the school even know there is a superintendent search going on. If anyone on a public school listserv has engaged in any discussion about the superintendent search, please post here.
    Thanks.
