  1. Let us not overlook the $30K allotted for moving expenses (more if necessary), the annual cost of a vehicle for "for school district business and personal purposes during the term of this Contract," &, of course, the allowance for a body guard. Along with travel reimbursment, professional development reimbursment (dues, conference expenses, etc.), retirement, medical, disability insurance, life insurance, technology support all paid for by the taxpayers of MoCo & 45 days of leave each year, I am guessing that Starr is the highest compensated non-elected official in the greater Washington area.

And I am guessing that his compensation package puts our local elected officials' compensation to shame.

Despite salary freezes & layoffs, this is business as usual in MoCo.

From page 6 of the contract:

... In the event the life or safety of the Superintendent or his family is
threatened or otherwise appears in danger as the result of the performance of the
Superintendent’s official duties, the Board shall pay the reasonable and necessary costs incident
to the protection for the Superintendent and his family. The Board and Superintendent agree to
first seek such protection from the Montgomery County police authorities.

  2. How many Media Specialists and Counselors are going to be out of work because of this salary and benefit increase for the Superintendent position?

  3. First, let me say - Thank G-d Jerry Weast is finally leaving! It's about time.

As for Starr's salary, I'm not sure who should be more embarrassed - Starr himself or the Board for approving it. Personally, I think they should be funding a good portion of that bill. If they want him that bad and if they think he deserves that much, let them pay for it. The use of a company (public property) car for personal use is only one of so many things that are wrong here.
