Board to spend $7.7 Million on June 27th without discussion

On the Board of Education's Agenda for June 27, 2011, is a Consent Agenda item to spend $7,736,637. (Consent Agenda means there is no planned discussion of this spending.)

Of that total, the Board of Education will spend $6,756,129 on contract extensions.  That means for most of these payouts bids were not taken. The previous vendor's contract was apparently just "extended" for these payments.

Here are some of the highlights of the upcoming spending spree.  Please note these are all contract extensions. No bidding from other companies on these procurements. Remember MCPS thinks bidding is overrated

$460,000 to Wireless Generation (You remember them, the company that was to pay MCPS royalties of "seven figures over 3 years" ...How exactly did that work out that taxpayers are funding this company almost half a million dollars a year but haven't seen an accounting for the royalties?)

$476,000 to Northeast Evaluation Association (For professional training and consulting. MCPS can never have too much consulting!)

$622,616 for Oracle Identity and Access Management Suite (Will renewing this contract for "access security" software stop teenage hackers?)

Procurement 3.1.1
