Starr to make over Weast's Seven Keys

Jerry Weast's Seven Keys have hit quite a few bumps over the years, so it is no suprise that Superintendent Joshua Starr is going to make them over.  But, what will this do to Jerry Weast's reputation as a "renowned educator?"

The Washington Post: Montgomery County’s ‘Seven Keys to College Readiness’ will get a makeover

  1. "Joshua P. Starr seeks to broaden the system’s definition of student success to include skills not measured in standardized tests — such as persistence, motivation and grit" Huh??? Yes now we must set...Grit Standards? Can I get extra Grit credit? Will there be an AP persistence test? Has he lost it?

  2. Has he lost it?!!!!!!! NO, he hasn't but the teachers in this county have. He's worried about the keys and we don't even have the resources needed to teach the 2.0 curriculum that's being rolled out!!! What a mess............. I'd like a grit key to enter my building everyday as long as Joshua is handing out new keys. Only one third of the teachers in this county are engaged and only half the principals according to the gallup survey that was conducted this school year. He needs to stop worrying about his keys and start worrying about 2.0 implementation and gathering resources so his teachers can instruct. I've never seen such poor moral amongst the very people, the teachers, who will be the ones to pull it all together and find a way to implement a curriculum that has been poorly planned and poorly rolled out. MCPS is NOT the school system it once was.

  3. @Anonymous, the teachers were involved from the very beginning of the Pearson -- whoops, I mean the 'Curriculum 2.0' curriculum acquisition and implementation. If you are a teacher, please stop shirking your role in this. Read the Pearson-MCPS development plan. Teachers agreed to shill for Pearson.
