Breaking: MCPS Superintendent Finalist Announced and Lost to Florida

You can only read the article linked below if you promise not tell Board of Education President Patricia O'Neill that you have learned the name of one of the finalists for the position of the MCPS superintendent.

Board of Education President O'Neill has already made it very clear that she does not want the names of the MCPS superintendent finalists made public.

So, if you can keep a secret you can read this AJC.com article about a finalist for the MCPS superintendent position that just accepted another job in Florida. 
...Avossa is also a finalist for the superintendent position in Montgomery County, Md., but he told reporters at the Palm Beach Post Thursday that “Florida feels like home to me.”...

    Palm Beach announced the names of the finalists. So Mr. Avossa did not find our BOE's secrecy / confidentiality as a necessary condition for applying to MCPS or an obstacle to applying to and accepting an offer from a school system that was more transparent in superintendent selection. Perhaps this new information will persuade the BOE to seize the opportunity to inform all applicants that the finalists will be revealed. While Mr. Avossa clearly would not have withdrawn his application but others might. Still on balance, transparency is better. For example, our BOE could avoid repeating the huge mistake like choosing Dr. Massie as MCPS Superintendent in 1999

    We deserve to know who the finalists are. I am writing to the Board of Education to request the release of the finalists' names, and I suggest others do so as well.

    I agree, there should be no secrecy. Is this a clause that can be overturned? What needs to be done to change this?

    Would you want your employer to find out you are actively seeking out other positions? I didn't think so. The names are confidential for a reason. While Florida school districts release names of their finalists, has anyone noticed that Superintendents in that state tend to stay in that state? A question unrelated to the topic, but just an observation.
